Pending approval from the Ponca City Board of Education, Jody Fincher has been named the new principal at Liberty Elementary. He will replace Lori Cox, who will retire at the end of the school year. 

Fincher graduated in 1991 from Roland High School. He received his associate’s degree from Carl Albert State College and a bachelor’s degree from Northeastern State University in 2002. He earned his master’s degree in education administration from Southwestern Oklahoma State University in 2021. 

“I am excited to be the next principal at Liberty Elementary. The faculty and staff at Liberty are second to none and I am ready to get to work to carry on the good work that Lori Cox has built there,” said Fincher. “Liberty is full of students eager to learn and I’m excited to be a part of the Liberty family. I want to thank Adam Leaming, Jennifer Dye and the school board for this opportunity.”

Fincher is certified in Oklahoma in PK-12 Health and Physical Education, 5-12 U.S. History/OK History/Government and Economics, Elementary Principal, Middle School Principal and Secondary Principal. 

He has been the head basketball coach for the Ponca City Lady Cats since the 2015-2016 season. Prior to that he coached in Heavener and Cedarville. As a coach in Oklahoma his teams have earned two Black Diamond Conference Championships, five District Championships, two Regional Championships, six Area Tournament Appearances, four Area Consolation Finals Appearances, three Area Consolation Championships and three State Tournament Appearances. 

He has four children: Evan, 28, Corey, 26, Baylee, 21, and Ashlynn, 20.
